Look I respect that mentality, but I don't like the "two hours I can use to unwind and do things I enjoy becomes more time to work" lifestyle. I did that, and it made me, "all work and no play makes jack a dull boy". Felt miserable. Woke up super early so my commute doesn't take longer than an hour, work my 8+, then be in another hour and a half if traffic to get home and immediately go to the gym. Do my two and a half hour workout, go home eat shower go to bed repeat. Good for those happy with that lifestyle but it doesn't make me feel happy.

He might have been a Navy Seal Commander and I am sure he is good at what he’s been trained for. But just waking up at 4:00 am won’t cut it for anyone out there as it’s much more important to get enough sleep ( Between 7-9 hours for most adults ) to be effective. So while waking up that early is smart in terms of planning your day effectively, you will also need to get enough sleep. In order to get enough sleep and waking up at 4:00 am you will need to go to bed at 20:00 and this wouldn’t be a thing for me nor any other adult who comes home from work at 5ish 6ish... I want to spend more time with my family than 2 hours!! I rather wake up at 6:00 / 6:30, do my workout, eat and get ready for work and still have much more of the actual day than doing the average military routine. Hell, even the majority of soldiers I know wakes up at 6ish during duty. 4:00 am is for grunts & madmen.

This could work in reverse imo, granted for those with children it would be difficult. But there’s no difference between waking up at 4AM - 11PM and waking up at 10AM - 5AM as long as you’re applying the same methods you could achieve the same if not more? So I think the hours are irrelevant.

Why not go to bed at midnight and get up at three am, that would be real discipline. This is my problem with this stuff, it sells books but what are you trying to become, a navy seal? No thanks. I make a living, enjoy my life, and sleep til seven thirty.
